Getting started with tropical plants: choose for your room
The easiest plant to care for depends on your light, space and care routine. Tolerance does not mean no maintenance.
Assess your room
Note the windows, darker seasons, heat sources and access for watering. Identify space for a pot with drainage and the size the plant may eventually reach. A room without a window needs supplemental lighting; see the guide to growing without natural light.
Choose a species and read its care guide
Learn about the needs of the plant you choose before buying it. The tropical plant care guide and the watering guide help you ask the right initial questions. Do not apply the same schedule to every species.
Prepare a simple setup
The indoor plant equipment section includes lights and substrates. Choose only what your setup requires, using the lighting guide and the guide to choosing a mix. The shop offers equipment; this page does not promise the sale of live plants.
